Colour and Material for GraviTrax®

Colour differences in white base plates from GraviTrax®

The basic material of the white stones, such as those used in curves and intersections in our Gravitrax® marble run, is called polystyrene (abbreviation PS).

Exceptions, however, are certain action bricks, such as the Hammer Strike, Catapult, and Loop. Since these bricks utilize so-called locking hooks, a different, more suitable material is used. This material is abbreviated to ABS  (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymers).

The white base plates of the action bricks are made of ABS, which is naturally a bit more yellow/creamy than PS; the white color pigment used cannot therefore produce a pure white.

Colour differences in gray bricks from GraviTrax®

Since mid-2019, we have been using–out of necessity–a different material for the grey height stones, as the old one is no longer produced.

The new material has a subtle colour difference from the one previously used.

All materials used by Ravensburger are rigorously tested for suitability and chemical safety. These criteria are our top priority, which is why we are happy to accept minor colour variations.

Yellowing of the white stones of GraviTrax®

The basic material of the GraviTrax® bricks consists of two types of plastic that were carefully selected: on one hand because of their properties required for the construction of the GraviTrax® bricks, and on the other because of their suitability for use as toys.

These plastics can turn yellow when exposed to UV light. We are currently working on a new formulation for these plastics to ensure better color stability under UV radiation.

Since we at Ravensburger have very high standards for the materials we use, the search for suitable new raw materials presents us with a major challenge that will take some time. We ask for your understanding. Please also be careful not to expose our products to excessive and constant sunlight.
